Doctrine Of God 2

Special thanks to Pastor Kent McBay of North Mesa Baptist Church. He taught most of what appears in this article and provided most of the relevant scriptures.

The power and wisdom of God. While God is all-powerful, His power is always exercised as His wisdom, goodness, and holiness dictate. Idols that are dead objects exercise no power and idols that happen to be alive exercise their power sinfully and wrongfully.

First. God is all-powerful. He is the Creator and Sustainer of all things.

Genesis 1:1: In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.

Colossians 1:12-17: Giving thanks unto the Father, which hath made us meet to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light: 13 Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son: 14 In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins: 15 Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature: 16 For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him: 17 And he is before all things, and by him all things consist.

Matthew 28:18: And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.

Secondly. Not only is God the creator and sustainer of all things but He can do whatever He chooses with those things.

Job 42:1-2: Then Job answered the LORD, and said, 2 I know that thou canst do every thing, and that no thought can be withholden from thee.

Jeremiah 32:17: Ah Lord GOD! behold, thou hast made the heaven and the earth by thy great power and stretched out arm, and there is nothing too hard for thee:

Matthew 19:26: But Jesus beheld them, and said unto them, With men this is impossible; but with God all things are possible.

He has the power over all things, visible and invisible. He is eternal and will have that power eternally. He works all things together for good. He knows our thoughts. Nothing is hid from Him.

Psalms 139:2: Thou knowest my downsitting and mine uprising, thou understandest my thought afar off.

Luke 12:2: For there is nothing covered, that shall not be revealed; neither hid, that shall not be known.

Numbers 32:23b: . . . be sure your sin will find you out.

There is no limit to God*s ability. He knows everything, past, present and future. He keeps all His promises.

Hebrews 6:16-17: For men verily swear by the greater: and an oath for confirmation is to them an end of all strife. 17 Wherein God, willing more abundantly to shew unto the heirs of promise the immutability of his counsel, confirmed it by an oath:

Isaiah 46:9-11: Remember the former things of old: for I am God, and there is none else; I am God, and there is none like me, 10 Declaring the end from the beginning, and from ancient times the things that are not yet done, saying, My counsel shall stand, and I will do all my pleasure: 11 Calling a ravenous bird from the east, the man that executeth my counsel from a far country: yea, I have spoken it, I will also bring it to pass; I have purposed it, I will also do it.

Numbers 23:19-20: God is not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should repent: hath he said, and shall he not do it? or hath he spoken, and shall he not make it good? 20 Behold, I have received commandment to bless: and he hath blessed; and I cannot reverse it.

His power is limited only by His character. Having all power with the ability to do all things, His rule is absolute.

He rules over men. Men and their destiny are in God*s hands.

1 Samuel 2:6-8: The LORD killeth, and maketh alive: he bringeth down to the grave, and bringeth up. 7 The LORD maketh poor, and maketh rich: he bringeth low, and lifteth up. 8 He raiseth up the poor out of the dust, and lifteth up the beggar from the dunghill, to set them among princes, and to make them inherit the throne of glory: for the pillars of the earth are the LORD*S, and he hath set the world upon them.

1 Timothy 6:15-16: Which in his times he shall shew, who is the blessed and only Potentate, the King of kings, and Lord of lords; 16 Who only hath immortality, dwelling in the light which no man can approach unto; whom no man hath seen, nor can see: to whom be honour and power everlasting. Amen.

He makes poor or rich. He can raise men from the dead.

John 11:25: Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live:

He gives us free will but our destiny is in His hands.

He rules over creation.

Matthew 5:44-45: But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you; 45 That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust.

Psalms 103:19: The LORD hath prepared his throne in the heavens; and his kingdom ruleth over all.
